Start a side hustle
2017 is filled with so many people excited and passionate about achieving their goals, making money, building communities and just all round doing better! I am so excited for what this year has in store for me ( and you!). we should all be really confident about what we are able to achieve and reach our full potential.
I have come into contact with so many amazing people who are getting their businesses off the ground, leaving their full time job and making extra money on the side. Having a side hustle, being a millennial, soloprenuer or, entrepreneur is todays standard. At least one person you know is making their own money and utilising their skills outside of work through their side hustle which should lead you to one question, should I have a side hustle too?
Why you should start a side hustle this year
If you’re like me and have 9 to 5, you’re probably thinking how could I possibly fit in a side hustle? Maybe you dont have a 9-5. You could be investing your time in full time studies or you’re a stay at home mum. What ever your circumstances you might just be thinking I couldn’t possibly invest any more of my time into something new.
While you might feel pinched for time, a side hustle is well worth your while. You don’t have to make money from it straight away. Maybe you want to develop your skills or test the waters and see if there is a market for an idea you’ve been thinking about for months. Testing the waters and doing sole thing on the side, that you arent 100% dependant on for income can be really beneficial if your idea requires a lot of financial investment. Maybe you can find ways to raise money while you work on your idea or see whether its really something you believe is worth investing in full time.
You don’t even have to consider trying to make your side hustle a full time thing. It could be something so simple like taking your mind off work or using up some free time to do something productive. Maybe you’re in need of some extra cash and want to supplement your current income. If you need to raise some extra cash AND strapped for time, check out my blog post – 5 easy ways to make money online. This way you can make extra money in the comfort of your own home and can do it within just a few hours!

You should already know by now that I started this blog as my side hustle because I wanted something more productive to do with my time. Going to the gym was completely off the table because I just had 0 motivation to get up and go. Starting a blog was so ideal because as a lawyer all I do is write! I was really keen to do something that I could build as my own and focus on my personal development. If I could share my experience and relate to some amazing people along the way then what did I have to lose.
In just one month of blogging I have come across a community full of so many positive people and I hope to continue to meet more. If you are looking to join online communities for your blog and business and not sure where to look, I created a comprehensive list of online groups across Pinterest, Twitter and Facebook to promote and engage with others online. You can download this list here!
My point is that, having a side hustle can be great for a lot of reasons. Heres why:
Taking charge and responsibility of something which is 100% yours is really satisfying. You make the decisions and delegate the tasks, which can be a complete change if you work in a company telling you what to do Monday to Friday. Having the choice and the power to decide what goes and when is empowering. Its all about doing something for yourself and setting something up which you can call your own. It shows your ability and drive to do something and in fact even inspires others to motivate themselves, take action and set up something of their own too.
You develop various skills
If you want to start aside hustle, this will help you to develop skills so you can grow. Since starting my blog I have had to learn to manage my time effectively, be consistent, be my own social media manager plus educate myself about blogging, content marketing, SEO and a whole bunch of other stuff. I needed to be productive with my time and be efficient because I have so many things to focus on for my blog week on week. I decided to invest in this Productivity Planner Pack which is so handy for setting out my goals and working out what important stuff I need to do for the week. Its well worth getting if like me you want to stay organised!
I know a lot of people that say they don’t feel like they are being challenged in life and this is where I say do your research and start a side hustle. Keep yourself busy and keep developing your skill set. Plus it could be a great talking point in a job interview or a networking event.
You meet great people
Whether its on social media, networking events or people you know, there is always the opportunity to meet new people. This will give you the chance to ask questions, learn more and build amazing friendships. I truly believe that the foundation to business and networking opportunities should be building relationships. As they say its not what you know, its who you know. By meeting new people and expanding your network, this puts you in a strong position to start a side hustle.
If you blog, have a business or side hustle and looking with likeminded individuals make sure you download this free social media promo list. You need the money
Living paycheck to paycheck every month can be pretty soul destroying. Your worried about whether your card will be declined for that £3.50 pumpkin spice latte in Starbucks and cant really afford to go out with your friends this weekend, which is why a great way to overcome this is to start a side hustle. Of course it helps to have a great budget in place too and I talk about how you can save a ton here. But having a side hustle and earning some extra money can really help with your expenses and that luxury lifestyle you have on a low budget.
If you are thinking of starting side hustle I would certainly say go for it. There are so many facebook groups, and social media outlets, which are there to support and guide you with helpful tips and advice so you never have to feel lost or overwhelmed.
