Simple self care strategies for a healthy and positive lifestyle
I get it. You’re busy. You’ve got a full time job, you’re making money, you’re in school, looking after a young one. So you simply just don’t have the time. The day goes fast, you’ve got a dozen things on your to do list and its already 8pm. I completely get it. You know why? Cause ive been there!
Late nights, lack of sleep, early morning starts and 2 hour commutes every single day are all too familiar with me. I miss work outs, I barely have time to do meal prep. So who has the time for self care right now?! But here’s the thing. While you say you don’t have time for self care, you’re also tired, overworked and overwhelmed with no end in sight. Hmm. Seems like self care is on the cards after all.
The thing is, if you dont look after your self, the truth? Maybe you aren’t going to feel good, or try your best. You need to get into the habit of looking after yourself so that you feel better. You deserve attention and to feel good just as much as everyone and everything else you seem to be giving your time to. It not rocket science.
If you’re lacking in perfecting your self care routine. I completely understand. Thats why I created this guide with a complete list of self care strategies to help you improve your routine and stay in track.
Get more sleep
I mentioned it in my productivity post and Ill mention it again. Get more sleep. I mean it! Not getting sleep can really affect your mood, your motivation and your effectiveness. A few couple of late nights I get it. But over time continuous late nights will begin to affect you. Start to get into a routine of getting enough sleep. I myself am just slowly getting back into my own routine and boy is it hard! Luckily christmas break is coming up where I wont have too many early starts!
Yup, this one too. Self explanatory right, everyone has got to eat. But what are you fueling your body with and how often are you eating? A breakfast bar for breakfast, McD’s for lunch and Frozen Pizza for dinner is a no no. Fuel your body with the right nutrients and eat regularly throughout the day. I’m not a fitness trainer but basics have it that eating well and good nutrition will help to boost your energy levels and overall fitness. Side note: I’m upping my fitness game. Watch this space!
Make an effort
Listen. You have to show up for yourself. The same way you pull yourself out of bed for work, the friend you don’t want to let down or the date you cant wait to go on. I really dont get why we cant put the same level of effort in for ourselves the way we do for others. 100% to them 0% to you? Not going to work! Show yourself the same level of value the way you do for others. Even in business! Don’t undervalue your prices while you’re quick to pay someone else for the same service a high price. Be your own best friend, your own cheerleader and show up every day.
I wish I could do this more often. Well i’m trying. This saturday I used my favourite bodyshop seaweed face mask which I havent used for months. Oh guess it what? It was hard and I blatantly should’t have used it but I was determined to do something ‘nice’ for myself! Whatever it is, schedule time to do something for yourself. Get your nails done, hair, dress up, have a bath. It could be something which doesn’t even involve pampering yourself. Like finding time to watch tv or read a book. Make sure you set aside some me time.
Set a routine
Sometimes among the chaos it can be hard to balance all the things you have to do. But I am more than confident that you can schedule time for at least one thing a week. Or fortnightly. Dont be lazy. Schedule that one thing (or a couple things) in your calendar and dont miss it. Make sure it gets done without fail. Even give yourself a penalty like £1 in the box.
Dont be hard on yourself
You’re working hard on your fitness, getting better sleep and everything else but there will always be times when you just don’t feel like it and cant be bothered. Well guess what? Thats ok too! We all need a break from the pressure we put ourselves under let alone from others. So when computer says no. Dont fight it. Just get back into things tomorrow. Or the day after….
Be around positive people
I know, this self care routine is all bout you, so whats the relevance of being around others? The point is, you want to be around people that are a positive influence on you. If you are constantly around people that are moaning, ungrateful or unsupportive, this is going to have an effect on you. You’ll start to question yourself or wont aim high because the people around you are always full of doubt. When you are around positive and confident people, you cant help but want to be a reflection of them too. When they hold so much energy and confidence it will influence you. This will turn into a habit and you’ll start to make changes in your mindset, your goals, your lifestyle.
Keep yourself on your own toes. Aim high and keep building. No matter how small your goals are, have a drive to succeed and achieve something for yourself. Setting goals will build your character, boost your confidence and overall mindset. Working on yourself is one of the most important self care strategies that you can follow. It stops you from getting lazy and has you to work on something so you never get complacent.
Keep a positive mindset
Be your own biggest cheerleader. Be positive for yourself and others. When you maintain a positive mindset you gain a lot of energy and confidence to do things. Don’t underestimate the strength of having a positive mindset especially coupled with having positive people around you. It’s not easy, admiring pretty and gym obsessed Insta girls or not getting many page views but hold your head high. Believe in yourself, your looks, you blog, you intelligence. Keep being you and keep up your positive mindset.
Find a hobby
